Not much info yet, but VIR was popular with kart racers in the 19 60's and early 70's.
Among them was future NASCAR star Ricky Rudd.

Info Needed - Bill Fishburne writes - When I was a student at NC State I entered a go-kart in a three-hour endurance race at VIR. That would have been in the 1963-65 time frame. I remember the race because it rained all day and we were wet, cold and miserable. The back straight flooded and most of us spent a great deal of time getting out of the grass and back on track. My co-driver and I finished but probably were the slowest team on the track.
