Lincoln-Mercury took over the track for the very first tests of a competition 289 Cougar with Parnelli Jones driving the Bud Moore prepared car.

The team left looking quite happy and unofficial times were several seconds faster
than the 2:25 of VIR TransAm record holder Pete Feistmann's Mustang.
