Virginia Teletype Swap Session - August 2019

Questions? - send email to Nick K4NYW

Steve NB3O near Winchester VA recently offered several items FTGH (Free To a Good Home).
Nick K4NYW and John K4OZY volunteered to help pick up Steve's collection and get it distributed to new homes.
Skip down to see what's left as of 8/6/19 - a 28KSR and other stuff

Saturday night before the Berryville hamfest, Nick and John visited Steve and loaded up the cargo van

At Berryville we unloaded one KSR for display - lots of people saying "I used to have one of those!" One or two people were wishing they had room for it. And finally Tom KC3LKE stepped up and took it home to join his new M19!

Steve's Electrocom TU also went to a greenkeyer who came by, but I forget who - too much happening at the hamfest!

And we also redistributed a couple of Steve's HF receivers.

After the hamfest, two 28KSRs and some misc equipment came home to Nick's garage in NC for further redistribution

One of Steve's units was a Navy TT-47. I can't resist Navy gear so I decided to swap it for a Bell unit that I had restored and painted gray - My old KSR is going to Ralph KU4PT

SO yesterday I hauled my Bell unit up two flights out of the basement to the garage and hauled the Navy unit back downstairs (note: down is easier than up).

Before.......

After......

The light gray Bell unit above is now happy with Ralph KU4PT.

This leaves one more Bell 28KSR that needs a new home. Pickup in Chapel Hill NC  - or I can deliver it within a 2-hour radius.....or haul it to Dayton/Xenia next year. Send me email

The cabinet has some scuffs and an odd square hole cut in the side and covered over with a piece of metal or plastic....But the printer and keyboard are in good condition. I have cleaned, lubed, and tested the printer and keyboard - everything is working nice and smooth now. I installed 60wpm gears, changed fraction keys and typebox to regular communications style, removed the extraneous wiring, replaced some missing pieces, etc. I have tested it using an old ribbon and paper so you'll want to get some new. Also it still missing the info covers at the sides of the keyboard (Teletype part 154198)

The stunt box was chock full - I cut off the extra cable and removed the low-paper switch.. It looks like SELCAL and KEYBOARD-LOCK are disabled. It does have automatic CR-LF at end-of-line.

The LESU has a big (1A) loop supply This photo was before I removed all the extra wiring.
